Origin & Craftsmanship
This stool is handmade in Ghana by our experienced artisans.
Our artisans carefully obtain their wood from reforestation projects and also make use of repurposed wood to craft a variety of products.
The soul of our work lies in the material itself. They skillfully transform repurposed wood, gathered under the strict oversight into high-quality masterpieces.
The rich history of each reclaimed piece is preserved and enhanced through meticulous craftsmanship and a strong quality control process.
The result is a juxtaposition of premium-quality product, exceptional traditional techniques and a story of ethical, sustainable sourcing.
Design & Symbolism
Design & Symbolism
The Akofena Adinkra symbol, prominently carved into this Ashanti Stool, translates to “Sword of War.” It is one of the most revered emblems in Akan culture — a symbol of courage, valor, and authority. Traditionally, the crossed swords represented the strength of the warrior, the honor of leadership, and the readiness to defend truth and justice.
In Ashanti society, the Akofena was not only a weapon but also a ceremonial emblem carried by chiefs and dignitaries to signify power balanced by wisdom and integrity. Its presence on this stool transforms the piece into a tribute to bravery and noble character, qualities deeply respected across generations.
Carved with precision and intention, the symbol’s intersecting blades capture the harmony between strength and peace, defense and diplomacy. When placed in your home or collection, this stool serves as a reminder that true power lies in courage guided by moral purpose.
Care
Care
Each stool is a unique, handcrafted piece made from natural wood. With proper care, it will last for generations and retain its beauty and character.
Cleaning
- Dust regularly using a soft, dry cloth or a slightly damp (not wet) microfiber cloth.
- Avoid harsh chemicals, detergents, or abrasive cleaners, as they may damage the wood’s natural finish.
Conditioning
- Nourish the wood with a natural furniture wax, beeswax polish, or mineral oil.
- Apply a thin layer with a soft cloth, let it absorb for a few minutes, and then buff gently to restore luster.
- This helps prevent drying, cracking, and warping.
Placement
- Keep the stool away from direct sunlight, radiators, or heat vents, as excessive heat can cause the wood to dry out or fade.
- Avoid placing it in damp or humid areas, which can lead to swelling or mold growth.
- Use felt pads under the legs if placing on delicate flooring.
Use
- Your stool is sturdy but handcrafted . Use it for sitting or display, not as a step stool or to support heavy loads.
- Minor scratches or marks can be gently buffed out with fine-grain sandpaper, followed by reapplying wood oil or wax.
Long-Term Care
- Over time, your stool may develop a rich patina, this is a natural part of its beauty and heritage.
- With regular care and gentle handling, it will continue to age gracefully and tell its story for years to come.
